Press Freedom Solidarity Letter from Caracas...

From the country where journalists don't go to jail....

1 September 2004, 11:46 p.m.  Caracas, Venezuela

Dear Al,

I just checked into Narco News and saw that Jennifer Whitney was detained yesterday in New York.  I was about to send her an e-mail because this afternoon I was in Nueva Tacagua and Victoria Osuna and her daughter Catalina asked me if I had heard from Jennifer.  It surprised me that they remembered her from our short visit to their home and asked about her by name.  I did tell them that I was sure she was in New York, but that was all that I knew at the moment.

I will try to get in touch with the Osunas tomorrow to let them know about Jennifer.  The Osunas are a very strong Pentecostal family and I am sure that Jennifer will be the recipient of a ton of prayers and good wishes from their religious brothers and sisters.  If you are able to communicate with her, let her know that people in Nueva Tacagua are thinking of her and her companions in New York.

I am, too.

Con un abrazo,

Charlie

Our Policy on Comment Submissions: Co-publishers of Narco News (which includes The Narcosphere and The Field) may post comments without moderation. All co-publishers comment under their real name, have contributed resources or volunteer labor to this project, have filled out this application and agreed to some simple guidelines about commenting.

Narco News has recently opened its comments section for submissions to moderated comments (that’s this box, here) by everybody else. More than 95 percent of all submitted comments are typically approved, because they are on-topic, coherent, don’t spread false claims or rumors, don’t gratuitously insult other commenters, and don’t engage in commerce, spam or otherwise hijack the thread. Narco News reserves the right to reject any comment for any reason, so, especially if you choose to comment anonymously, the burden is on you to make your comment interesting and relevant. That said, as you can see, hundreds of comments are approved each week here. Good luck in your comment submission!
