Claims: Mesa in a Bunker as H20 cut from La Paz

It is at hours like this when special attention must be paid to the claims of Commercial Media, and a full record must be kept of what each says about the earthshaking events of immediate history.

For example, Bloomberg news agency has just reported:

Bolivia's Mesa Works at Secret Site to Avoid Protests

June 6 (Bloomberg) -- Bolivian President Carlos Mesa left the presidential palace to hold meetings with government officials in a secret location after protests near the palace raised concerns for his safety, a government spokeswoman said...

Here is another tremoring claim from Bloomberg:

Mesa met with military officers today after protesters broke open the main drinking water pipe to La Paz, cutting off the water supply to the capital, the radio said. Gasoline stations and stores closed due to shortages of fuel and basic foodstuffs after two weeks of roadblocks by protesters, according to La Paz daily La Razon.

In this same hour, The Jerusalem Post reports:

Israel has chartered an aircraft to evacuate dozens of Israelis, mainly young backpackers, from the Bolivian capital La Paz, where rowdy anti-government demonstrators paralyzed the downtown district Monday in the biggest march yet in weeks of protest.

The first group of Israelis were to be flown later Monday to Juliaca, in neighboring Peru, Israel's ambassador to Lima, Ori Noy, told Israel radio. He said 24 Israelis were already at La Paz airport and would leave within hours, while an unknown number of others who were in downtown hotels and hostels would be escorted to the airport after dark.

"We shall bring them all in a group, under protection from the local police and army, to the airport. " Noy said. "It's not a great distance but there are many problems on the way...."

"It's quite a mess," Noy said. "There are demonstrations and also on the road from the city to the airport there are sometimes roadblocks."

Monday's protests began with lines of rowdy demonstrators, including indigenous women in black bowler hats and farmers in baseball caps, snaking down from poor hilltop slums above this capital as bottle rockets screeched overhead and disgruntled miners created thunderous booms by tossing dynamite sticks...

Finally, I need to say something (again) that has been de riguer for moments like this one that we have reported on at Narco News over the past five years:

The Narco News Bulletin stands behind our journalists reporting in Bolivia during these tense moments. Any attack on any of them will be exposed and justice will be sought and done. We hold U.S. Ambassador David Greenlee personally responsible for any harm or injury that comes to any of our journalists in Bolivia while he is ambassador.

Un fuerte abrazo a Luis Gómez y todo el equipo Narco News en todas partes de Bolivia en ésta noche tan historica.
