Where was the teargas?

It is amazing how well our fellow observers predicted the outcome of the pro-coup mob's demonstration.

You all must be seasoned and well trained social scientists.

Where was the baton-swinging, teargas shooting, rubber bullet and live ammo spraying, pressure water hosing, selective raping, boot kicking, "accidently" killing, rib cracking Honduran police force?

Where was the crowd control?

I lived in Honduras and the only time I saw cops was when they were blockading roads in order to "tax" entrapped drivers.  They sometimes were seen to shake down walking pedestrians and they were rumored to kill homeless kids as an after hours job.

The local business owners didn't like the pesky little things bothering customers.

When I was working at a high class bi-lingual school for the oligarchy's kids, I remember talking about the general social situation with the librarian.

He had served in the military and he was, coincidentaly, from Zelaya's home district of Olancho.

I asked him why he didn't become a cop like so many retired military personnel.

His response was that all they did was sit around the police station drinking beer, smoking dope and looking at telenovelas and sports events on the TV.

It's nice to know that they are now getting exercise beating, shooting, torturing and murdering their fellow citizens while they finally get to know Tegus's local colonias and barrios through rapid hit and run raids.

There is always a silver lining...
