Que sueño!

"Nada me ha quitado el sueño.” Had the U.S. any cojones, the only "sueño" he would have would be a "sueño humedo" (wet dream) of remaining in power. Let's hope the "sueños" of the oppressed will continue on so that this clown can eventually deposed and the oligarchy will be frustrated. "Micheletti explains that his lack of insomnia is closely linked with his faith in God and that he consistently prays for peace and tranquility in the country." I'm laughing my a@# off reading that quote. If he were somewhat religious he would know that neoliberalism and elitism is contrary to Bibical principles. He would also know the Ten Commandments and that killing, something his regime is now guilty of, IS A SIN! He must worship a different God than mine.

Señor Micheletti and Mgr Rodriguez, his personalize confessor?"

If Micheletti or his fellow gorrilistas read this, then I hope they will accept my "sympathy" on one point at least. Personally I find "Golpistador" more cute and imaginative when dealing with simple idiots like Micheletti.

I would prefer an Interpol arrest warrant, expulsion from the United States by US Immigration & naturalization services ("manu militari"), and formal charges before an international tribunal for the likes of Billy Fernando Joya-Amendola, however. What's he doing in NYC being interviewed by the NYT in a nice new suit and a sunny-looking appartment (or office?) when the US State Department has him identified as a (the?)prominent figure behind the illegal and anti-democratic Coup d'Etat/Golpo de Estado in Honduras?

 As for His Most Reverend Excellency Mgr Rodriguez (who has been mentioned in the past as a possible "candidate" for the next Conclave in Rome,) I remember the stature of Mother Theresa (a tiny woman), of the regretted Dom Helder Camara (1909-1999)...and of (former) US Representative (D/Mass) Robert F. Drinan SJ (1920-2007.)

Father Drinan was the US Congressman who allowed me to take the exams that got me into the US Naval Academy and (later) the US Marine Corps. He was one of the 20th Century's outstanding authorities on US Constitutional Law. He was a courageous opponent of the Vietnam War. In 1981 the Roman Catholic Church required Father Drinan to choose between politics and his priestly calling. A disciplined Jesuit Father, he obeyed promptly and left politics for teaching.

About two years later (1983?) in Honduras, another Jesuit Father, James Guadalupe Carney SJ, who was a WWII veteran, made a similar choice-and he,too, stood by his priestly calling. He left the Company of Jesus "without bitterness," however, "to remain with the poor in Honduras."

Returning to attend the needs of his fellows and the faithful, he joined the ranks of the "Desparacidos" of Honduras...

I am still "baptized" and "a believer"-but I am not ready to take communion from the hands of those who look the other way..

Micheletti = Pinochetti

A brief comment. Today, Amnesty International presented a very troubling report concerning the mass violations of human rights by Honduras' police. In my emails, I have changed Micheletti's name to Pinochetti. Chile's Pinochet also had a direct line to God; and the Chilean Catholic Church understood his need to murder, torture, exile, imprison, abuse and harass members of any possible oppositional organization. So many civilians accidently fell into this very vulnerable category; but God has absolved these sinners for their Godless boldness of getting in the way of a bullet, police trunchents, a torturer's electrical shocks, etc. So much to forgive. I am glad God in his infinite mercy forgives those who irritate our blessed representive of Honduras' plutocrats, oligarchs or, should we say, those who are God's-instrument-on-earth? Faith is such a blessed attitude. Who needs the pesky and faithless disciplines such as empirical evidence, logically consistent arguments, historical context, critical analysis, etc. If such intellectual disciplines guide one's thought processes, one cannot spend one's self into a stupified, and trascedent consumer ecstasy. I may feel a tug of doubt when entering the well guarded US-style malls; thus I may not meet my Lord in the proper frame of mind. May El Heraldo and La Tribuna please protect me from any form of information that may cause any of our citizens to question the wisdom of our supreme leader, oligarchs, military or international corporations.

Is this a Latin American Bush?

The U.S. also had a "man of God" in the White House up until the beginning of this year. His name: George W. Bush. James Dobson and his circle of evangelicals used that phrase to help propel Bush to victory in 2004, having us believe that Bush was a prophet and took direct orders from the man upstairs. Problem was the death toll on his crusading Iraqi war included 175 thousand innocent victims. The use of the phrase makes me rather skeptical.

Was this the first anti-abortion coup?

Check out Laura Carlsen's new article on the role of women's organizations against the coup: http://americas.irc-online.org/am/6369 In it, she reports an allegation that Zelaya's approval of the morning-after pill threw the Catholic right wing behind the coup, and that Opus Dei helped organize it. Anyone have any knowledge about these allegations?
