People like Evo Represent Hope.

This was an amazing speech. Ive heard Evo denounce capitalismo many a time, but this was much more than that. This is type of discourse most of the trendy books being sold about a "clean energy transition" and "mobilizing to save civilization" stay away from. We need to question more than whether or not it is feasible to keep greenhouse gases from reaching 440ppb or whether or not there is some chance our technoculture might be able to come up with a solution to the energy crisis, which is just beginning. Even if we could replace our countries infrastructure and utilize some new energy source, which is extremely unlikely, is that what we should really hope for? Almost all the world's fisheries have collapsed and the others aren't far behind, we're poisoning our fresh water sources, our excessive meat eating has led to gigantic feedlots that pollute like cities and results in the clearing of forests around the world, our agricultural model based on GMO's and monoculture is destroying top soil and based upon petroleum based fertilizers, the hundreds of millions of dams we've erected are killing the rivers, and we're cutting down pristine forests to wipe our asses! If none of that is bad enough, we have a pathetic level of interest in or influence over our "democracy," which allows corporations to be legally treated as humans while they concentrate the worlds wealth in the hands of the few. Half the worlds wealth is now in the hands of 2% of the population. How have we come to justify this? We dont need to live this way, like Evo said, we can Live-Well and recover our dignity as people while halting the destruction of the landbase we rely upon. It's not one or the other. We don't need toys and shirts from China, we need people who take pride in what they do participating in more localized economies. The whole system is coming down eventually, its pretty apparent, why not speed the process up by saying @#$% it and refusing to work that job or buy from Coca-cola. Don't let the WTO meet in your city. Don't let people around you think that because the World Bank has created a climate investment fund that its helping to save the world, remind them they're investing over 200% more money in dirty hydrocarbons than last year. They're lying to us. "Clean-coal" is an oxymoron. We'll run out of uranium which is necessary for nuclear power, soon, especially if we end the moratorium on building plants and build more. Look at the last few hegemonic-imperialist powers to gain a better understanding of what we're going through now, if you even need to, its pretty obvious we're coming to our end (the U.S.). They experienced this same rise of religious extremism and the collapse of their financial sectors, etc, etc, etc. We should really take a few moments to reflect on Evo's words, maybe email or read his speech to someone else. Those we're wise words. Lets let him help us take some steps backward, so that we can move forward, and so that we, along with the earth, can survive.
