Klein could have mentioned

Klein could have mentioned that Berger is 82 years old, which may or may not have had anything to do with his sending a video to the Dignia Rabia festivity, but surely doesn't have the immediate appearance of lack of interest as cause of his absence.

It sounds like Ross may have run into one of those confrontations with a stronger personality who failed to confirm Ross' private opinion of his own celebrity status.

I've been wondering about Ross lately

I've wondered a couple of things about John Ross lately. One is simply if he's had some sort of falling out with the EZLN for reasons that he apparently does not want to make his readers privy. Second, I've been wondering if his ongoing health problems have clouded his judgment in recent months. His dispatches have become more sporadic (it's easily been a month or two since his last piece at CounterPunch), and something in the tone of his dispatches has changed since late last year. In any case, while it would be wise to recognize Ross' early work in bringing the EZLN to international attention, it would be equally wise to accept that Ross is simply unable to keep his eye on the ball, as it were, and rely on the dispatches coming from journalists who are better able to observe and synthesize the news from Chiapas.
