Words of support from ChicagOtra collective

Colectivo Caracolero
CHICAGOTRA

To the People Of Mexico.
TO the Federal Government of Mexico.
TO the Legislature of Mexico.
To Social Organizations.
To All Media Outlets.

The ChicagOtra, Zapatista solidarity group adherent to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle and The Other Campaign, from Chicago, IL, United States, publicly expresses our concern about the grave indications coming from the Mexican Federal Government which lead us to believe that a violent intervention will take place in the political conflict that is occuring in the state of Oaxaca and we make an urgent call to prioritize the path of dialog that seeks a response that is just, legal, and founded in human rights.

Through various means, we have been informed of the existence of an imminent operation in Oaxaca by the Federal Intelligence Agency, called Global 5, which based in the declarations of the presidential spokesperson about the federal government's evaluation of sending federal forces into Oaxaca, alerts us to the very real posibility of these forces entering that territory,in addition to the media campaign carried out by the state government on national tv, which intends to criminalize the social movement and justify its call for the entry of federal forces.  We affirm that a violent response is not the solution to this conflict.

Furthermore, we make note that a violent response to the conflict represents a grave violation of international accords on the defense of human rights and a fracture in the democratic process that mexican society has struggled to construct, which will continue to promote the systematic violation of Human Rights in Oaxaca; for various national and international institutions have also expressed their concern sending urgent actions and recommendations ot the Federal Government, petitions which have not yet resulted in concrete and immediate solutions.

We strongly reject any attempts at violent resolution to this conflict, it is in the hands of the Federal Government to respond to the people of Oaxaca, so oppressed and subjected to violence historically, and the just and dignified stuggle of the APPO (Popular Assembly of the People of Oaxaca) to which we give our support, through dialog and complete respect for human rights.

We hope that a clear resolution will come from the negotiation table, with the restablishment of a just order and a new pact between the government and society of Oaxaca.
