Gift DVDs and News from The Fund for Authentic Journalism

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Supporters,

Can you believe it?  Two thirds of the year are gone already.  And what an amazing year it's been for Narco News and the School of Authentic Journalism.  You've been reading the articles, listening to the radio reports and viewing the photography and video on Salón Chingón, so I probably don't need to remind you what this thing is all about and why we support it.  You know that already.  Instead, I just want to take a moment to tell you about our latest fundraising drive, how we got here and how we're going to take Narco News forward into many seasons ahead.

We started this year with nothing.  In a way, maybe it was worse than nothing because we were forced to raise the majority of our total budget in the early months of the year.  We needed to raise $60,000 to return Narco News to publishing and hold our fantastically successful J-school in Bolivia.  Thanks to the hard work and generosity of so many you, we did exactly that.  And now, we've come out of the J-school, in debt, but otherwise stronger than ever before.  But we're asking for you help again, to provide the one resource we're missing to keep this project going.  We need to raise $10,000 by October 8th.

Please, make a contribution today to The Fund for Authentic Journalism to support Narco News and its School of Authentic Journalism.  If you've never given before, right now is the perfect time to start.  If you've given before, please give again so we can employ this awesome network of authentic journalists to its fullest potential.  That potential is to break through information blockades that enable unheard cruelties in the "war on drugs" and untold crimes against democracy in our América.  That potential is why I'm very proud to have given of my own time and money for this project and that potential is why every one of you should feel great about being a part of making this happen.

To sweeten the pot, we've got a new gift we'd like to give to everyone who contributes $50 or more:

Many of you are already enjoying Greg Berger's hilarious and poignant short film "Gringoton" (Gringo-Thon) streamed over the internet from Salón Chingón.  But what good is bending over a tiny computer screen when you want to show the film to eight or eighteen of your closest friends?  Well, thanks to the generosity of Gringoton creator, Greg Berger himself, The Fund for Authentic Journalism will be giving away a high quality DVD of Gringoton AND the "Chew On This" documentary produced and directed by the Narco News J-school video team.  That's right:  Both videos on DVD to anyone who contributes $50 or more.  Plus, while supplies last, anyone contributing $100 or more can have their choice of Narco News watches as our gift, in addition to the video.

Of course not everybody has a DVD or wants a watch.  These items cost us very little so we are glad to make gifts of them, but if you'd rather not have one sent to you, just let me know.

So when is the best time to arm irrepressible authentic journalists with the funds to make their work possible?  Today.  Right now.  Please, go to this website to give via credit card:

Our Policy on Comment Submissions: Co-publishers of Narco News (which includes The Narcosphere and The Field) may post comments without moderation. All co-publishers comment under their real name, have contributed resources or volunteer labor to this project, have filled out this application and agreed to some simple guidelines about commenting.

Narco News has recently opened its comments section for submissions to moderated comments (that’s this box, here) by everybody else. More than 95 percent of all submitted comments are typically approved, because they are on-topic, coherent, don’t spread false claims or rumors, don’t gratuitously insult other commenters, and don’t engage in commerce, spam or otherwise hijack the thread. Narco News reserves the right to reject any comment for any reason, so, especially if you choose to comment anonymously, the burden is on you to make your comment interesting and relevant. That said, as you can see, hundreds of comments are approved each week here. Good luck in your comment submission!
