Reporter's Notebook: Bill Conroy

Al Giordano's blog The Field censored

I didn't realize the full extent of this when I wrote the original post on the State Department's purging of Secrecy News, but another act of egregious reader censorship is occurring over at what used to be the authentic Field.

Al Giordano's blog on the presidential election has been erased, along with thousands of reader posts and commentary, and visitors are now redirected to a limp version of the Field called the "Back Forty." (Backward Forty might be a more apt name.)

For those who haven't checked out Al's new home for the Field (here, hosted on this site), it's worth a look. See for yourself the outrage being expressed by the censored readers who are now commenting about their treatment at the hands of the thought police.

It seems the Backward Forty failed to heed the words of a wise old Rabbi:

The paper burns, but the words fly away. ~Akiba ben Joseph

And it is to Narco News, and soon the far corners of the globe via the Internet, that those censored words will soon "fly."

Giordano promises to provide the full scoop starting Monday.

I saw this yesterday and was very disturbed that Al Giordano's posts were missing without even a mention of his name.

Beyond the fact that this work is now lost to the public, I can't imagine how it feels for Mr. Giordano to have work simply disappeared like that.

I haven't been a commentor on his posts, but I have read them regularly. It took some bit of googling for me to find him over here. I'm very glad he has a new home. Is there anything that can be done about restoring all of his previous work?

Steady as she goes

asnevitt: You may already be up to speed in reading through the Field posts now at this site, but Al is always three or four steps ahead of the average bear, and I expect the past blog entries and reader comments are all preserved and will once again be posted on the new site as all the technical matters are resolved in the relaunch of the Field.

Any way, welcome aboard the ship. The sails appear to have caught a good wind toward our destination: the truth.
