Peace and Dignity runners in Arizona and New Mexico

The routes for the Peace and Dignity Journeys runners for Central Arizona beginning today, Saturday, July 26, are listed below. Another route ran from Wheatfields on the Navajo Nation south this week through Apache lands. A route in New Mexico is scheduled to arrive in Las Cruces today, Saturday, July 26, 2008. Jose Malvido, northern coordinator for the Alaska to Panama route, said there are several routes of runners now running through New Mexico and Arizona on their way to Vicam Pueblo in Mexico and ultimately Panama.

"We have had several Peace and Dignity routes. Our northern leg began on May 1, 2008 from Eklutna, Alaska (near Anchorage). When we hit Lair First Nation, Yukon (Watson Lake) our routes split. One group ran through the Cassier Highway through western BC. Once they reached northern Oregon, the group split into three. One continued running down the western coastline, another group ran through the interior of California and the third group ran south east into Nevada, eventually into Arizona. Our group, from Watson Lake, ran the Alaskan Highway through Northern, BC, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. When we entered the US we ran to the Red Lake Reservation in Minnesota. From there we ran to Bemiji, the headwaters of the Mississippi river, White Earth and then we made our way to N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and now New Mexico.

"We plan on Crossing into Mexico on July 30th. I would also like to point out that we had three additional routes that came from the East. One group started out of Manhattan and made their way to Pennsylvania, where the met up with the Longest Walk's Northern Leg. Another group ran from Red Clay Tennessee and made their way to New Mexico, where they connected with us on Taos on the 19th of July."All of our routes will connect on August 13th in Vicam Pueblo, the 'capital' of the Yaqui Nation, in Sonora Mexico. From there, we will run through Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica until reaching the Panama Canal on November 14th. At Panama we will connect with the runners that began from Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Those runners are currently running through Peru.

"The Journeys is based on the Prophecy of the Eagle and Condor. We are currently living in the time when its the responsibility of Indigenous Nations of the Western Hemisphere to re-unite, bring healing to the land, and the peoples of the world."
