As we know, in 1991, the USA launched its Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction program, that supposedly has the noble objective to destroy all types of Weapons Of Mass Destruction (WMD'S) that were produced during the Cold War era. Apart from scrapping some obsolete models of its very own arsenal, and those of its allies, like Israel, the USA itself continues producing all kinds of new varieties of mortal and lethal arms.

Latin America: In Defense of the Venezuelan Revolution

Prelude

Large political and socio economic changes in a third world country do not happen when things are complacent and well for the masses. Neither was this the case with Venezuela. In December 6, 1998, Hugo Chávez of the MVR Party (Movimiento de la Quinta República—Movement of the Fifth Republic) won the presidential election by a whopping 56.2%, one of the largest majority of votes attained in the history of Venezuela and breaking the pattern of a two party political system that offered little practical variation at all for the previous 40 years. Indeed, the election of 1998 marked a new and brighter beginning for Venezuela and its citizens.

Is the current flood tragedy in Venezuela (and Colombia) natural, man-made or God-made? Hundreds perished, thousands are homeless. Is there a connection with the warming up of the planet, with the Asian tsunami, with the bad weather in the Mediterranean, with the earthquake in Japan?

The historic life and heroic struggle of Mahatma K. Gandhi (Oct 2, 1869 to Jan 30, 1948) against British colonial injustice, human degradation, economic exploitation and social discrimination are well known, here we will just spotlight certain selected aspects of his social philosophy, its moral principles and its contemporary relevance for global revolutionary and emancipatory efforts.

 While the Venezuelan ship of state, for a while, still encounters itself in the revolutionary doldrums, let us look at our black, golden future.

Sometime ago, Alfredo Bremont wrote a most interesting commentary: "The US shooting Venezuelan (Russian built) MIGs could be really dangerous".

He summed up the current politico-economic global context of the Venezuelan Bolivarian Revolution as follows:

"In this decade black gold has displaced the yellow one ... it is no longer how many billions of gold bars that a nation has in his national bank reserves that signify anything, but rather how many billions of petrol reserves you have. ... The Venezuelan bolivar should break away from parity with the US dollar and create its own measure ... Venezuelan oil reserves are valued more than gold bullion in a bank."

As we reported, a while ago, in Moscow, President Hugo Chavez Frias bought Trotsky's famous work "The Permanent Revolution" and is currently eagerly studying its historic application and relevance. Apart from the well-known theory of global permanent revolution of Trotsky ... the establishment of socialism on a world scale, and not the Stalinist version of socialism in one bloc, country or island ... what should interest Venezuela in particular at this moment are Trotsky's views concerning the social relation between "violence" and "emancipation" in the "Third World," in Latin America.

Nationally and internationally, studying the latest urgent actions of the Venezuelan government, definitely, life in sheer ad hoc probabilities and mere pro forma possibilities is ending here and now.

Stark, dark, stormy, Orwellian realities are spreading very fast across Latin America and the world.

Millions and millions across the globe are already vegetating in sub-human life conditions, generated by corporate, imperialist ultra-exploitation and by bellicose, merciless oppression.

11,468 computer viruses were eliminated in the space of one hour by VHeadline.com's firewall at around 7:00 p.m. New York time yesterday, November 22 ... the corporate enemy is becoming desperately dangerous ... all this reminds me of a fatally wounded man-eater that launches the barbaric "law of the jungle," that becomes more ferocious as it nears its inexorable demise.
