En estos momentos da su primer discurso al pueblo de Bolivia como virtual presidente electo. Contados 88 por ciento de los votos, tiene el 51 por ciento y es presidente electo. Ya no requiere de ayuda, ya no espera al Congreso Nacional, EVO MORALES AYMA es el nuevo gobernante de un país que lo votó masivamente y ahora celebra en todos los rincones, en todas las calles y plazas a su alcance.

The voting in Bolivia ended about three hours ago, kind readers. This morning, at 8:45 sharp, Evo Morales cast his vote in Villa 14 de Septiembre, a town in the heart of the Chapare. Evo spoke of the necessity that “today’s vote bring an end to discrimination.”

The Movement Toward Socialism (MAS in its Spanish initials) candidate also spoke of the need to live in peace while respecting social justice. And in these moments, it has been announced, unofficially, that Evo has 44.5 percent of the votes counted up till now… which would be a victory unparalleled in the history of Bolivia.

Nevertheless, the day was not completely peaceful, as the MAS candidate had hoped. A few hours ago, in at least a few parts of the country, such as Villa Ingenio in the city of El Alto, it began to smell like fraud. Let’s go now to what’s happening.

Hace poco más de hora y media que terminaron las votaciones en Bolivia, queridos lectores. Esta mañana, en punto de las 8:45, Evo Morales depositó su voto en Villa 14 de Septiembre, en pleno corazón del Chapare. Evo habló de la necesidad de que "el voto de hoy acabe con la discriminación".

El candidato presidencial del Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS) se refirió también a la necesidad de vivir en paz pero respetando la justicia social. Y en estos momentos, se ha anunciado que, extra oficialmente, Evo tendría ya 44,5 por ciento de los votos contados hasta ahora... una votación sin igual en la historia de Bolivia.

Sin embargo, este día no todo fue completamente pacífico como esperaba el candidato del MAS, y al menos en algunos lugares del país, como Villa Ingenio en la ciudad de El Alto desde hace unas cuatro horas en este país huele a fraude... vamos ya a lo que pasa.

Venezuela is once again at odds with other Latin American governments. This time, it’s with Bolivia, because of the general elections coming on December 18. Once again,  the Latin American right is reacting with “rage” to a president who wins elections and has the support of his people. And in the middle are the Bolivian Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) party, a Venezuelan official, and a bunch of idiots burning a Venezuelan flag in front of that country’s embassy in La Paz. For the last two days, in various points across Ecuador, the social movements and organizations have been, once again, on the warpath. The enemy, always the same at heart, today bears the name Free Trade Agreement. The Ecuadorians have decided to wage a frontal battle against that kind of “accord,” with which the United States hopes to take possession of the riches of our América. El enemigo, el de siempre en el fondo, se llama hoy Tratado de Libre Comercio. Los ecuatorianos de a pie han decidido dar una batalla frontal contra esa forma de "acuerdo" por el que los Estados Unidos pretende adueñarse de las riquezas de nuestra América. O como dice el manifiesto que nos llegó desde las entrañas de la nueva movilización ecuatoriana: "El modelo impuesto por el TLC se basa en la importación de lo que ellos no quieren... y en la exportación y la privatización de nuestros recursos naturales y en el saqueo de nuestra biodiversidad".
