Emergency Protest at Mexican Consulate in Boston
Submitted on May 4th, 2006 by Dan FederIn Response to the Zapatista Red Alert and Call to Action
Solidarity with the people of Texcoco, Oaxaca, and Mexico!
Stop state repression and violence against our comrades!
When: TOMORROW, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), 4:00pm
Where:
Boston's Mexican Consulate
20 Park Plaza, Boston
Bring: Noisemakers, signs and banners that show support for our Mexican comrades in struggle
As of the afternoon of May 3, Subcommandante Marcos of the EZLN (National Zapatista Army of Liberation) announced in a public act in Mexico City a new RED ALERT and closure of Zapatista caracoles and suspension of activities of La Otra Campaña, which has now become a struggle to support the people of Texcoco, who for the past two days have been experiencing severe government repression.
Reports show two dead, including a fourteen year old boy who was shot by state police. 800 heavily armed riot cops stormed the local flower growers' market in the dawns early light, beating and arresting hundreds of workers.
The people of Texcoco run local markets and produce everything on their own, but Walmart is threatening their way of life.
The Mexican state has been increasingly using violence against workers over the past few months. Last month, two steelworkers were killed in a standoff with police as they blockaded the steel plant.
Now is the time for Solidarity! Solidarity with the people of Texcoco! Solidarity with the EZLN struggle against political repression!
Bay Area Call To Action for the people of Atenco
Submitted on May 4th, 2006 by Dan FederSisters and brothers, compañeras y compañeros-
As we have been demonstrating our complete denouncement to the anti-human, anti-immigration bill HR-4437, we are reminded of the power of organization in numbers and solidarity through work, marches, action, and unity. At this same time that we defend the human rights and lives of those affected by violent injustices of the US government here, we also ask that you do not forget the struggles of our sisters and brothers internationally who are experiencing these injustices also.
We have learned that most recently the people of San Salvador Atenco have been under brutal attack by the forces of 800 heavily armed riot cops for simply defending the peoples' right to autonomy, for defending the small businesspeoples of Texcoco, for demanding respect and opposing the invasions of multi-national corporations such as Wal-Mart and other mega-markets who destroy local economies, lives, and land. So far we know that at least one young person the age of 14 has been killed, while many more are facing violent beatings, arrests and possible death.
We have learned that our sisters and brothers of San Salvador Atenco are standing in resistance to the evils of imperialism by any and all means necessary and we ask that you, too, stand in resistance and solidarity. Tomorrow, May 5th at 12:30 p.m. at the Mexican Consulate Building of San Francisco (532 Folsom St) we call out to our communities and our families to stand in opposition to violence committed by the forces of the Mexican government: the PAN, PRD and PRI parties.
A CALL TO ACTION:
Friday, May 5th @ 12:30
The Mexican Consulate Building of San Francisco 532 Folsom St. (between 2nd St. & Essex)
BART: Take Montgomery St. Exit,
From Market St:Right on 2nd-Right on Folsom
