Obama's Stimulus and the Left

whileromeburns.org tells us "Last month more than 600,000 Americans lost their jobs. Every additional day we delay the stimulus bill, another 20,000 get downsized. Please pass a bill now which creates the most jobs possible."

greenforall.org warns us "We need your help right now, to save Obama's visionary green Recovery Plan in the U.S. Senate. Americans widely support the Recovery Package, but the right wing is mobilizing to kill it. Your Senators are voting on the bill in the next few days."

Meanwhile, those looking at the details of the plan notice that it:
- includes $2 billion provision for "clean coal" plants.
- includes tax cuts for big business including $1.6 billion for Verizon
- no longer includes the state healthcare programs
- doesn't include meaningful bankruptcy reform
- includes $50 billion for nuclear power

Not all on the left are unquestioningly falling into like, Naomi Kline (tinyurl.com/cmx6yb), and others (http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/02/03-7 and http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/02/03-3) are pointing out some serious concerns about what is in the bill.

I urge everyone to set aside faith-based Obama support and get into the details.

Our Policy on Comment Submissions: Co-publishers of Narco News (which includes The Narcosphere and The Field) may post comments without moderation. All co-publishers comment under their real name, have contributed resources or volunteer labor to this project, have filled out this application and agreed to some simple guidelines about commenting.

Narco News has recently opened its comments section for submissions to moderated comments (that’s this box, here) by everybody else. More than 95 percent of all submitted comments are typically approved, because they are on-topic, coherent, don’t spread false claims or rumors, don’t gratuitously insult other commenters, and don’t engage in commerce, spam or otherwise hijack the thread. Narco News reserves the right to reject any comment for any reason, so, especially if you choose to comment anonymously, the burden is on you to make your comment interesting and relevant. That said, as you can see, hundreds of comments are approved each week here. Good luck in your comment submission!
