Compañer@s, we want to inform you about the activities we held last week as Movement for Justice in El Barrio and as part of the Other Campaign in New York.

Quienes Somos:

Somos del color de la tierra. Somos hombres y mujeres, ancian@s, y niñ@s de maíz. Somos Mexican@s. No hemos vivido en México desde hace tiempo, pero México sigue siendo el aire que respiramos. Sigue siendo el pulso de nuestros corazones. México sigue siendo el pensamiento que llena nuestras mentes.  En México hemos nacido y México nació en nosotr@s.

Somos Movimiento por Justicia del Barrio, una organización de Mexican@s que lucha por justicia en El Barrio.

Como inmigrantes, fuimos forzados a salir de México por el sistema económico, el neoliberalismo salvaje. Aquí en los Estados Unidos, somos afectados por el neoliberalismo todos los días. El neoliberalismo nos desplaza de nuestras casas en El Barrio.  La explotación en el trabajo nos forza a trabajar doce horas al día por sueldos de pobreza. Políticas inmigratorias racistas tratan de criminalizar y deshumanizarnos.

En Nueva York, nosotr@s luchamos en contra del neoliberalismo en todas sus formas.  Nosotr@s luchamos en contra del racismo, xenofobia, sexismo, clasismo, y homofobia.

Nosotr@s luchamos por la humanidad.

Who We Are:
We are the color of the earth.  We are women, men, youth and children of corn.  We are Mexicans.  We have not lived in our Mexico for a long time, but Mexico is still the air we breathe, still the pulse of our heart, it is still the thought that fills our minds. We were born in Mexican lands and Mexican lands were born in us.

We are Movement for Justice in El Barrio, an organization of immigrants fighting for justice in East Harlem.

As Mexican immigrants, we were forced to leave our native country because of a savage neoliberal economic system. Here in the U.S, we are affected by neoliberalism on a daily basis. Gentrification pushes us out of our homes in El Barrio. Exploitation at the workplace forces us to work twelve hours daily for poverty wages. Racist immigration policies attempt to criminalize and dehumanize us.

In New York, we fight against neoliberalism in all its forms. We fight against racism, xenophobia, sexism, classism, and homophobia.

We fight for humanity.

That is why we fight for justice here in NYC and have also joined the Zapatista’s Other Campaign and a broader transnational struggle for humanity and justice.

What follows is a proposal for “An International Day of Action Against Repression and for the Liberation of All Political Prisoners in Mexico.” We are Movement for Justice in El Barrio. We are an organization of Mexican immigrants that were forced to leave Mexico and come to New York because of the neoliberal system. We fight against the displacement from our homes here in New York and for the liberation of our Mexico. We are adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle and part of The Other Campaign. We thank you for allowing us to share our humble and simple word.

Movement for Justice in El Barrio needs two logos:
one to represent their struggle in El Barrio and another for their participation in the Other Campaign...

Movement for Justice in El Barrio, a grassroots organization of Mexican immigrants fighting against gentrification in El Barrio (East Harlem, New York City), is hosting a series of events in NYC and New Haven this April and May as part of the Zapatista-initiated “Other Campaign.”
