State Dept. to Expand Yet Another Ecuadorian Counterdrug Site
The first phase of the Ecuadorian Aero Police project will begin in early 2006, when the State Dept. hopes to break ground on the construction of several facilities at the Santo Domingo de los Colorados airport, located in Ecuador's Pichincha province, a Nov. 14 contracting document says.
This project consists of 402 square meters of office and residential buildings, 354 square meters of a helicopter hangar, and 615 square meters of helipad and vehicular area for use by the Ecuadorian Areo [sic] Police. The buildings include troop barracks for 15 people... The solicitation is planned for release to qualified offerors on about November 28, 2005, for contract award by January 2005. It is anticipated that construction will start as soon as possible after contract award, with a performance period of approximately five months from contract execution to substantial completion.
The contract resulting from this initiative has an estimated construction value of $250,000-$500,000 (U.S.). The document says that State will release a more detailed proposal and formal solicitation on or around Nov. 28.
