South Central farm update: Los Angeles community seeks to buy their land

On land saved from hosting a garbage incinerator by community activists, 360 families now grow vegetables, fruits, medicinal plants, and herbs. With the land sold out from under them by the city, the people have fought on every front to keep their community treasure but have only won, just now, a shot to buy the land and keep it from becoming but another giant warehouse.

"After three years of struggle, perseverence and determination, we have reached a critical point where we have a genuine opportunity to save the South Central Farm for the South Central Farmers, and the community at large.  Our voices have been heard, the vibrations from our marching feet have been felt and the power of the community has been acknowledged.  This is it...  we can secure the preservation of the farm in the days to come.  We've fought in the courts to our capacity but have not succeeded as one would hope.  Our success legally, was in the acquisition of time to raise awareness and empower the community to fight for what is just.  An eviction is still in place but will be put aside to give the community an opportunity to fundraise."
