Convention Pre-Game Show
By Al Giordano
That music video above is one in a fabulous animated series of some of David Rovics' "kids' songs" (he's got great "adult" material, too), and those of you coming to our garden party today in Denver will be able to hear more, live, from the singer.
We'll have food and drink and conversation from the best folks from and visiting Denver at the home of Keith Howard, 4303 Umatilla Street, from 3-6 p.m.
Also, since there's a lot of moving around and news chasing ahead of us this week, I've signed up for a Twitter account through which I'll offer the occasional update via cell phone this week when I'm not near a computer.
Stay tuned...
Also: Our guest blogger Katie Halper has sent in an update to her earlier post here:
Breaking News: Joe Lieberman Correction Released
As I reported the other day, The AP referred to Joe Lieberman as a "prick" instead of "pick." The AP has apologized to Joe Lieberman and issued the following correction:
In initial versions of an Aug 18 story about upcoming vice presidential picks due from McCain and Barack Obama , The Associated Press erroneously referred to Senator Joe Lieberman as "the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000." The Senator is actually a "putz."
And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming with a new video from Jed:

I'm following Al on Twitter!
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Pamela Hilliard...Al is getting just so "hip & with it"! (Hey, I'm a 60s child!) He updates on Facebook and now on Twitter, too!
Al, did you know that if you use "Ping.fm" you can update all your social media at the same time with the same message? You can also select which social media to send different messages.
But for now, 'cuz you'll be so busy, you can use it to send the same message to Twitter and Facebook with just one input.
Go to http://ping.fm and sign up. It's in beta and you have to use the code word du jour: "vivalaping".
If you can get to the web by phone, you can log onto ping.fm from there and send your messages. It automatically shortens your links but keeps them "hot".
I know, I'm just so a "gadget girl"! Hubby just rolls his eyes...
BTW: if you additionally use "TwitterFeed", your Twitter followers will get auto updates whenever you post with the title and a link to your newest post...
OK, I'll stop!

Obama/Biden
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Tara Van NimanJust watched the YouTube of the rally yesterday. We were busy all day with our fundraiser so didn't get a chance to watch any coverage. Good stuff! I was a little bit ambivalent about Biden but I can see where this could really work. The reality is that Schweitzer would have been really exciting but just would not lend enough comfort to folks in making this very important decision. And not just that, Biden is a great speaker and seems so young and feisty.
The fundraiser resulted in about $3k in donations. I would have hoped for a little more and it was harder than I thought it was going to be but it was fun. Folks are just really busy during the summer. In Seattle, we have about 8 really good weeks to shove all our summer activities in to so a lot of folks were busy. The campaign was always so gracious about it....ANHYTHING you can do is appreciated, they said.
Hope your fundraiser goes well, Al. I sent the invite to one of the WA state delegates who indicated he was going to attend.
Had occasion to be in Denver yesterday
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Ann CantelowI and husband had occasion to be in Denver yesterday. We were impressed with how many police people were there. They didn't seem to nervous, as far as I could tell, and were friendly and willing to talk to people, but there were sure a lot of them. Many had handcuffs on their belts. Some had gas masks. Some had riot shields. Some were driving around in unmarked cars. There were big fences around the Pepsi Center where the convention will be. This is serious business.
Devastating Vid - Vietnam Vets & Repub officials AGAINST McCain
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Alexa (not verified)This needs to go viral, esp in light of McCain using his POW status to explain away his unknown-home-number crisis. Oh that there were someone in Hanoi who could pry loose the records mentioned in this vid...

Fundraiser
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Catherine (not verified)Good luck with the fundraiser!! I just sent a few dollars from Chicago to The Field and thought I would mention that it might be a good idea to have a monthly scheduled set donation amount as an option for payment. I have that with the Obama campaign and that way it saves me a bit of time trying to figure out when I last donated.

Oh no, we're ruined!
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Jason YoungI just talked with someone who thinks that McCain will pick Romney, who will beat Biden to a pulp, and we'll have 48 red states come November! (he literally said this)
Also, the PUMA crowd found a fatal flaw in the Biden pick!
Looks like Obama just lost the tinfoil hat wearing demographic. I also see "BIB-ADE" and "O DAMN."

Pam, the only thing twittering in the hills here in Western MA are the birds. Maybe you could post some of your 'twitters' on the Field Hands site or here, for the non techy folks (me!) & others.
Loved Caroline Kennedy on MTP this morning. This is going to be such a good week. Happy Convention to Al & the posse.
McCain's alltime greatest dodge ( so far!) from JedReport

Biden a 19 point plus, no Clinton backlash
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Mainer (not verified)While Biden's name recognition is not particularly high, Obama got a 19 point gain among Democrats in their likelihood to vote for him with Biden on the ticket.
How many Democrats are less likely to vote for him? 2%.
21% say they are more likely to vote for Obama as a result of Biden's presence on the ticket, and only 2% say less likely.

Mainer, and isn't that the
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Steven HuntMainer, and isn't that the name of the game when they made the choice of which politico to tap for VP?
Indeed, herding the Dems is a bit tougher than it is the rightwing Republicans, but it can and must be done.
Obama needed to choose someone he could live with--and someone that would increase the chances of victory in November. This is truism, but a bad choice could have sank Obama's efforts to get to the white house.
I just don't understand the mentality that would vote for McLame--given the massive failures on the part of Bush during the last eight years. Incredible.
No, I will not be watching the Democrat convention this week; however, I will be follwing the reporatage that appears on this and a few other websites.
Enjoy yourself Al. Don't get arrested for smoking. Drink beer, not milk.

Yesterday morning, the day of our fundraiser, I had just finished watching this (again) and my 6 year old son comes downstairs holding a dollar bill and pile of change in his hand. "I want this to go to Obama," he says. Needless to say, I lost it.
Mainer, what am I missing in reading that link? This is what I read:
" Just 14% of registered voters interviewed in a new USA Today/Gallup poll say Biden makes them more likely to vote for Obama in November and 7% say less likely while 72% say he will not have much effect on their vote." Net gain of 7%.

@ Suzy - here's more on McCain
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Alexa (not verified)McCain's assertion on the Kos JedReport vid you cited that he led the largest Naval squadron is suspect. It was a training squadron in Florida. This US Navy film clip -- the only one available -- is from the Forrestal. It was always used in Navy damage control training films subsequently. McCain hotdogged on deck and caused this; he was identified in Navy classes as the cause by those who attended these classes and saw the film.
Because McCain was the Admiral's son he was airlifted immediately off the Forrestal to the USS Oriskany (the only Forrestal crewman to be transferred immediately) and was shot down in NVN three months later.
However, as Frank Rich noted today, the press is in the tank for McCain so his BS wont get the wide distribution or investigation it needs.
Rumors are also rife that McCain was blackmailed in the 90s with his classified records. That he had to agree to follow or push certain policies, or his records would be made public. That's why he felt safe to run for office in 2000. Again, these are rumors.
The party was a lot of fun, and interesting
Submitted on August 24th, 2008 by Ann CantelowI just came home a little while ago from Al's fundraiser party for the Fund for Authentic Journalism. It was in a very lovely garden, on a very pleasant sunny day, with fine food and drink. There were all kinds of important topics discussed and bandied about, and I for one learned lots, often about issues I didn't even know existed. I'm very glad I was there!
Biden and Democrats

The figures I gave were for Democrats. You're citing the numbers for "registered voters," which includes Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.
