Arizona Border: Mainstream media clueless

The most censored by the mainstream media: US Border Patrol running drugs, abusing Indigenous Peoples on the border

By Brenda Norrell

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- The truth about the US Border seldom appears in print. However, reporter David Morgan has exposed a $6 million "anonymous" donation from the Howard G Buffett Foundation to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office and Sierra Vista Police Department. The donation was originally listed as coming from "an anonymous" donor until Morgan filed a public information request.

This is the latest in a series of developments on the border in southeast Arizona that the national media has largely ignored. The most censored issue remains the fact that US Border Patrol agents are running drugs.

Sheriff and US Border Patrol agents murdered

Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever was killed in a mysterious car crash on the other end of the state, near Flagstaff, in September 2012. The first police to arrive at the scene gave conflicting reports of what had happened in the single vehicle crash.

Then, two weeks later, US Border Patrol agent Nicholas Ivie -- remembered for carrying a pregnant migrant woman to safety -- was shot and killed by fellow Border Patrol agents near Naco in Cochise County.

The agents involved were assigned to the Brian A. Terry Border Patrol Station in Naco. Terry was killed near Naco by one of the US weapons that the US ATF allowed to "walk" into Mexico in its Operation  Fast and Furious. Terry's death led to wide exposure of the ATF scheme of allowing assault weapons to flow to drug cartels in Mexico. The gunwalking scheme began on the Texas border in 2005, according to US Justice Department documents.

The national media doesn't stay long enough to discover the truth

The mainstream media is delivering a fictitious account of the truth at the border because the media is not present. When reporters do fly in, they rely on the public relations tours of the US Border Patrol, Tohono O'odham politicians, and other spin masters, and never listen to the human rights activists and others who know the truth.

The media has refused to expose the fact that hundreds of US Border Patrol agents and ICE agents have been arrested and convicted for drug smuggling and conspiracy (spotting for the cartels to bring drugs across) on the Arizona border and throughout the border region. The media largely ignored the Congressional hearing on the issue.

The media also ignores the fact that US Border Patrol agents are getting away with murder literally, as they shoot and kill teenagers for throwing rocks. One teen in Mexico was shot repeatedly and killed through the international border by a US Border Patrol agent. US Border Patrol agents have also been convicted of sexual assault of migrant women.

The Tohono O'odham Nation government has been co-opted by the US Border Patrol and is controlled by dollars from the US and Homeland Security. The Tohono O'odham government gives the media only its altered version of the truth. Tohono O'odham land is now militarized as a war-zone and is a source for profiteering corporations, including the builders of spy towers on sovereign Tohono O'odham land. Further, the Tohono O'odham Nation continues to expand land for US Border Patrol camps, while Border Patrol agents abuse O'odham and violate their sacred ceremonies this summer.

The Tohono O'odham government approved the 15th US spy tower on sovereign Tohono O'odham Nation land, and expansion of sovereign land for US Border Patrol camp, this year regardless of the protests by O'odham human rights activists. http://bsnorrell.blogspot.com/2013/07/tohono-oodham-council-approves-15th-us.html

The Tohono O'odham Police Dept. recently purchased an armored tank with US Homeland Security funds, according to The Runner News. O'odham human rights activists had already entered formal complaints about abuse by both tribal police and Border Patrol agents. O'odham say it is only a matter of time before Tohono O'odham tribal police use the armored tank against its own people. Among the abusers are the non-Indian officers on the Tohono O'odham Police Department.

The Tohono O'odham government has been able to conceal the truth by controlling outside media who come to the Tohono O'odham Nation, and by oppressing and stalking Tohono O'odham human rights activists.

Secrecy continues to surround the US drones on the border, including the issue of airspace rights and threats to citizens safety and privacy on the ground.

Private prisons and Israeli contractors

The profiteers include the private prison operators GEO and CCA profiteering from the incarceration of migrants and people of color in private prisons. G4S of London, previously Wackenhut Transportation, profiteers with transporting detained migrants from the border. Those are the buses snaking along the border. Wackenhut split into GEO and Wackenhut/G4S and now maximize profiteering from migrant misery.

Another profiteer on the US Border is Elbit Systems, among the Israeli Defense contractors profiteering from Apartheid border security systems on the Arizona border and the Palestine border. Elbit was subcontracted by Boeing.

Congressional hearing on US Border Patrol drug running

The Congressional hearing on US Border Patrol drug running remained nearly hidden, until hackers hacked into the Arizona police department and exposed the report. After that, Censored News found a news article online.

During the Congressional hearing on border agent crime last year, the US admitted that since 2004, over 130 agents of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have been arrested, charged, or otherwise prosecuted on corruption charges. The convictions include alien and drug smuggling, money laundering, and conspiracy.  http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/united-states/congressional-hearing-examines-ethics-violations-at-dhs-242766.html

The arrests of US Border Patrol agents for drug crimes continue. U.S. Border Patrol agent Raimundo Borjas, 39, from Douglas is scheduled for trial in October in federal court in Tucson for money laundering drug money.

Earlier, the FBI had to halt its sting operation because so many US soldiers, prison guards and police wanted to run cocaine from Nogales, Arizona to Phoenix. Nearly 100 were arrested in the Operation Lively Green sting, including Air Force soldiers from Davis Monthan where computers are used for remote killing by drones in the US targeted assassinations. Military recruiters in Tucson high schools were also arrested for cocaine trafficking in the sting.

David Morgan exposed the source of the $6 million donation in the Cochise County Record:

Source of $6 million donation to CCSO and SVPD? Howard G Buffett [Foundation], Willcox-area experimental farm owner, billionaire's son

Private funds will evidently be used to upgrade local law enforcement radio systems [160 mobile radios to SVPD, 400 to CCSO]

The Howard G Buffett Foundation is the source of a more than $6 million private contribution to local law enforcement agencies [Cochise County Sheriff's Office and Sierra Vista Police Department], as evidenced by documents obtained through public records requests. Read article:
